Just because something isn't called hypnosis doesn't mean that it is not. Visualization, Image therapy, relaxation are techniques of different methods. They differ in many respects but in some ways there is a connection. They are all built upon the foundation of hypnosis.
People go into hypnosis all the time by themselves in their daily lives. Remember when you were driving a car and your mind was on a problem and you got to where you were going and you thought, "I don't remember driving here." Perhaps you went ten miles past your exit. Your conscious mind was on the problem, so who was driving the car? You were on automatic pilot. Your subconscious mind took over. That is environmental hypnosis.
Can a person be hypnotized against his will?
No. Hypnotizing a person against his will is impossible. Even when a client has been hypnotized, should the Hypnotherapist suggest something that is against his moral or ethics or that he simply does not agree with; the client will come out of hypnosis.
If a person wants to be hypnotized, is there anything that can stop that from happening?
Yes, If the client does not understand. That is, if hypnosis has not been properly explained to him, or perhaps he has a lot of misconceptions about it, or maybe he doesn't feel comfortable with the Hypnotherapist. These are a few situations that may stop the process.
